course tour10. Willow Way - Par 3, 164mTeeing off over a steep slope demands a well struck shot to avoid the gully that stretches over the first two thirds of this hole. Arguably the quickest putts on the course await on this green which slopes down from right to left. A bunker short of the front-right corner of the green is well positioned to add further danger to the hole. A chip shot from above the green is most undesirable shot on this hole as the following play will most likely be from off the bottom of the green. Big-breaking down hill sliders require the touch of a surgeon on this green which is treated with caution by the members. |

11. Eden Glassie - Par 5, 441m
| The first of two par fives at Leonay sees a comparatively wide fairway lined with large trees on either side. Two adjacent tees are used on this hole with the right tee requiring a slight fade in contrast to the straight shot from the left tee. Long hitters may reach a grass gully that funnels shots left and makes for a challenging second if the green is the target. Bunkers are in range for second shots and if position off the tee is not optimal, a lay up could be required. Paper-barks to the left of the green will punish any ball that misses in that area. The green is reachable in two shots but requires both strikes to be accurate. |
12. Ironbark - Par 4, 376mA thick line of trees to the left of the tee and an imposing Ironbark to the right presents the first of a couple of challenges on this testing par four. The fairway slopes left to right and shots can easily end up in the trees to the right if the high-side of the fairway is not favoured, although a boundary fence running along the left hand side of the hole can be intimidating. The green is not bunkered but missing left, right or long leaves a difficult shot due to the steep slopes faced from these angles. One of the few original greens remaining at Leonay; the twelve rolls as true as any on the course and rewards a good stroke on the right line. |

13. Gully Gully - Par 3, 128m
| The first of two consecutive short par threes, the thirteenth offers rewards for a well placed tee shot. Shots to the green need to negotiate pines to the left and right which can be either in or out of play depending on the hole placement. What the thirteenth gives up in length – it gets back in a green with some of the most challenging breaks on the course. Down-hill putts are usually slick and should be treated with respect so the key is to leave the ball below the hole to take advantage and have a good chance at birdie. |
14. The Bowl - Par 3, 104mRated on the scoring index as the easiest hole on the course, the fourteenth is a genuine birdie opportunity. Two tees can be used on this hole. The alternate tee is twenty metres to the right of the championship plates and gives a good view of two large Poplar trees which may be in play for some golfers. The lack of length on this hole is compensated partly by a creek directly in front of the green which tries to play at the nerves of golfers looking to take advantage of this hole. The putting surface is raised from the surrounds left and right to make any mishit shots difficult to recover from. These obstacles aside, the fourteenth is the best chance of birdie as the closing holes approach. |

15. Pines - Par 4, 286m
| Once again, it is time to make a decision between laying up to the corner of a par four or going for glory with an ambitious drive taking on the corner. In a case of risk versus reward; thick tall trees on the right hand corner of this dogleg will punish anything in their direction that is less than perfect but a short pitch to a long, multi-tiered green is the benefit of getting around the bend. Hole placement on this green makes a big difference to the birdie opportunity that is a real chance after a well placed tee shot. The front half of the green offers relatively easy access for approach shots compared to the top tier of the green which has a small landing area and proves difficult to get shots close. |
16. Rinegolde - Par 5, 448mLeonay’s heritage is seen on this par five with undulating fairways evidence of the vineyard that once sprawled across this area. The fairway slopes uphill around driving range and flattens out for the last two hundred and thirty metres. A bunker in front of the green will make some think twice about whether or not to lay-up. Two good shots will be required in order to get on the green but laying up will leave a short iron in hand and a chance at birdie. The green is long with mounding on the left and right edges halfway up the putting surface making an accurate approach critical. |

17. Mountain View - Par 4, 348m
| With the club house in sight, there is still some work to be done before signing-off on the round. The seventeenth plays longer than its yardage due to the uphill slope of the fairway. The thick trees to the left of the fairway begin with a large gum that can be a problem for players with a left to right ball flight as they fade the ball back to the fairway. The uphill second shot often requires an extra club to be taken to reach this well protected, two tiered green. Pot bunkers short-right and another sand trap on the left require a true strike to avoid trouble. The step in the green will make for a challenging putt if the ball and hole are on separate levels. |
18. James Memorial - Par 3, 193mA good round can be either consolidated or unravelled on the final two holes and as the longest par three on the course, the eighteenth will keep players working hard until the final putt drops. A solid tee shot is required as anything short presents a challenge with chip shots tough to stop on this green. Taking too much club off the tee could result in a second shot from one of two wide bunkers behind the green. A bunker to the right of the green is also in play for a shot fading off-centre. A par here offers a rewarding finish to the round but with the green being one of few at Leonay that is wider than it is deep; long side-hill putts are not uncommon. |
